Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga on Saturday, August 15, fired back at detractors praying for his death after undergoing a minor surgery back in June.

Raila was speaking during the burial of the late Mama Elizabeth Olan'go in Bar Okwiri in Bondo and also dropped a hint on running for president in 2022.

"Some of them said that I will not be able to speak again. That I had lost speech, I was on my death bed and I was being fed using tubes.

"They were praying that I should die. As you can see I am very fine. I am very okay now," reiterated the ODM Party Leader.

Raila underwent surgery in Dubai, the United Arab Emirates, to treat a nerve disorder that had affected one of his legs after he was flown outside the country on the afternoon of Sunday, June 21, for treatment.

The former Lang'ata MP's prolonged stay in Dubai after the surgery sparked rumours about his state of health with the family coming out to clear the air.
Raila also dropped a hint on being on the 2022 ballot after previously failing to comment about running for the presidency.

"I told you that we were going to Canaan, the journey is still in. We found crocodiles at river Jordan, but that's why I told President Uhuru Kenyatta that we need to build a bridge. We will get there," he noted.

The African Union High Representative for Infrastructure Development in Africa used the term Canaan in the 2017 General Elections to signify his bid for State House.

Raila assured Kenyans that the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) rallies would resume soon before the 2022 General Elections as the final report from the secretariat was expected to be presented.

Also present in the burial was Siaya Senator James Orengo who reiterated the strength of the handshake in its quest to unite the country.

"The handshake is unshakable. Ask Dr Deputy President William Ruto if you want to confirm how unshakable it is," he stated.
